Windows SideShow for iPhone
A couple of months ago here at Ikanos Consulting towers we were thinking about cool things we could do with Windows SideShow. We're very keen firm believers in SideShow and already had a few devices cooking up. The core of our SideShow world is a piece of Vista software that has been designed to interact with almost any external device (providing it has an external connection). As a test we decided to create the Windows Mobile renderer and due to popularity and dedication from our beta testers we have decided to release Go Gadgets for Windows Mobile next year!
However, we decided that although a Windows Mobile SideShow device is cool (especially since it switches between USB/Bluetooth/WiFi/GPRS/3G) we wanted to put our Go Gadgets server to the test. Therefore I am announcing today the Go Gadgets renderer for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch!
By creating a new web-based renderer we are able to turn any device with a web-browser into a Windows SideShow device. And, thanks to the excellent web-based capabilities of the Safari browser on the device we can create a rich user-experience that rivals a native implementation. To add to the iPhone/iPod support we've designed the web-renderer in such a way that we will have the ability to use popular devices such as the Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, Sony PSP, Sony Playstation 3 and much much more.
We're not yet ready to release a public beta but I have enclosed a few screenshots of the Glance renderer as it stands today. Although we're not releasing Go Gadgets for iPhone we are however releasing our Beta 3 of Go Gadgets and Go Gadgets for Windows Mobile today. If you would like to sign up for any of our betas (iPhone/iPod or Windows Mobile) please send an email to beta _at_ ikanosconsulting.com
We have also decided to open a forum for all Go Gadgets discussion. The forum is being kindly hosted by VistaSquad and is available at: http://vistasquad.co.uk/forums/50/ShowForum.aspx.
Merry Christmas/happy holidays from Ikanos Consulting!
