Wow what a day! The Launch of Windows Server 2008 was not to be missed, kicking off with a surreal live drumming band before the Keynote speech delivered by Jonathan Perera – General Manager of Application Platform Marketing for Microsoft Corporation with live demos by Julius Davies, Mark Quirk and Keith Burns.
With the two routes for the days sessions plan I followed the Infrastructure route design for the IT Pro. With the first presentation on the Core infrastructure Improvements by Matt Mcspirit/Jane Lewis highlighting the main improvements over 2003 server. This was the followed by a lunch break giving a great opportunity for networking, grilling the Microsoft experts for tips and advice, some much needed refreshment, a walk round the trade stands and even some quality time for a bit of Tennis on X-Box.
The afternoon sessions I attended included:-
Virtualisation Technologies in Windows Server 2008 – Clive Watson/Julius Davies
Security Technologies in Windows Server 2008 – Steve Lamb
Windows Server 2008 Deployment – Julius Davies/Jason Stiff
All the sessions gave a great round up and vital info on the up and coming Server addition to the Microsoft’s family, with the highlight being the extremely well presented and informative session on Security by Steve Lamb, who I had the opportunity to chat with later in the Microsoft lounge.
All in all a great well balanced day and a fantastic opportunity for us all to push forward with all the new and exciting technologies.
I’ve posted a few pictures of the day in the gallery.
