    Vista SP1 x64 (Build 6001.16659 Beta 1)

Has anyone tried the new Service packs for vista?

I installed one and it stops one of my hard drives initializing.

Does anyone know where i can get a HOTFIX for it?

Even system restore doesn't fix it.

Ouch, I doubt there will be one, just the fix rolled into the next beta if its identified.

     Good luck. ;)

    Cheers

    Vista SP1 x64 (Build 6001.16659 Beta 1)

Yeah, i formatted and re-installed Vista without the SP1 a few times because i was trying to find ways to keep the hard drive working

Just going to wait for the propper release, was supposed to be ready for december i thought

but i doubt it will be.

The amount of updates show you how many problems the original Vista copies had.

    I do like it though.

    Cheers

I think SP1 is still a while away, I would prefer to wait until a solid release candidate is ready.  Definitely not ready for any machine I have lying around. ;)

Most SP1 releases have a ton of patches as Microsoft now has millions of users testing where its hard to reproduce every issue in a lab and most OS's now have a pretty hard period before an SP1 type of release comes along.  Monitoring the blogs, it seems Apple's Leopard is having the same teething problems - at least until an SP comes along.

I'm still beta testing vista sp1 I've not had any problems with hard drives not working and I've got 4 hard drives in my pc.
Just to let you know Vista SP1 RC was just released on the microsoft connect site for beta testers this week. If your an active MS beta tester either sign up for the beta program or if your not I'm sure you can find a way of getting the chance to test it by looking on the msdn blogs or forums

    Re: Vista SP1 x64 (Build 6001.16659 Beta 1)

I tried the proper version of SP1, my hard drives were in a striped array before installing the SP1. it made the hard drives screw up, fail to initialize and broke the array, therefore losing all my stuff. since i've formatted the hard drives, installed Vista, then SP1, and created the striped volume since then. and it works fine.

Just don't install SP1 while you have a multi-harddrive volume.

    Re: Vista SP1 x64 (Build 6001.16659 Beta 1)

Microsoft has warned against downloading vista sp1 from the download site until mid April when they will have the hardware incompatibility issues sorted. They recommend if you haven’t received the update through the windows update service to wait. There have been a large amount of people eager to install the sp1 update that they are ignoring Microsoft’s recommendations to wait. If your having hardware problems with vista sp1 its best to uninstall and wait for it to be offered through the update service. If you insist on going ahead make a complete pc backup first
