    Software Compatibility

I’m sure as Vistasquad User Group kicks off this part of the forum may become very popular, It’s here you can tell the world all you worry’s, woes and stresses as you try to install and run your favorite software applications.

Feel free to vent your anger and frustration (keep it clean though) over every hiccup you encounter, ask for help or provide solutions and fixes. Let’s set ourselves the challenge to make this the best place on the net to help solve software compatibility problems.

Just to get us started, Adobe has released a .pdf file for download at:-

    http://www.adobe.com/support/products/pdfs/adobe_products_and_windows_vista.pdf

This document clearly defines details of its current and upcoming products that support and run on Windows Vista.

    Re: Software Compatibility

I haven't seen any issues yet, but I haven't tested too much yet.  Office 2007 was one that has given us most of the issues so far. ;)

    Re: Software Compatibility

The only one I have come across so far is using Fireworks 8, it sends the GUI into Windows Vista basic mode untill you exit then it comes back to Aero. No fix yet may have to wait till they launch there next version.

    Re: Software Compatibility

Which version of Mcafee did you try to install, I have only tested Enterprise 8i on Vista it had many issues mainly with I.E 7 so changed to AVG Free seems to work fine.

The following link is for Mcafee. If you have recently purchaced a retail copy they provide a link for a download, they will provide a free upgrade for recent new account subcriptions.

    http://us.mcafee.com/vista/

    Might be worth a look.

    Re: Software Compatibility

it was their latest Internet security suite 2007. it didnt even get past the flash screen, it came up with compatability issues. it may be an x64 issue because it shows on the vista software compatability list and its showing compatible on mcafee's system requirements page

    Re: Software Compatibility

Found this link on James Senior's blog:

    http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.php/Windows_Vista_Software_Compatibility_List

It is a list of software which people have working or not on Vista.

    Re: Software Compatibility

I’m hoping over time that Vistasquad will have its own list created from our members of tried and tested software, available for download with tips and suggestions.

So if any one is having trouble with software or sorted an issue out let us know.

    Re: Software Compatibility

Ok another one that giving problems, its winzips self extracting exe files. Everytime I try opening one it picks a completely different file to open. I try open an Epson driver package, and it opens an old Hauppauge driver package from another folder, or even says its an incompatible activesync driver package. I've yet to open a winzip self extracting exe file thats actually what its supposed to be.

I dont know if its just another x64 vista issue but its the latest build of winzip pro 11. I've even tried installing winzip self extractor but thats not helped

    Re: Software Compatibility

I’ve just tried the evaluation version of WinZip 11 installed on 32bit version of Vista Home Premium and have successfully opened a good half dozen zipped files including a diver package for the Epson DX4800 all in one printer, scanner, fax.

So I’m guessing your right at it being a 64bit issue
