I have 1GB of RAM in my laptop and it runs perfectly.  Although without Aero running.  I'm developing on it too, so running Visual Studio 2005, SQL Server and IIS and I don't hit many problems.

I am also running 1 GB of Ram in my laptop and it does seem fine, I agree with Ray if you don't require the Aero interface best to turn off, this will help greatly with your performance. I have had no problems configured this way and I'm running Virtual PC with additional operating systems running ok.

I personally run the Aero interface, as I like all the bell’s and whistle, but from a business point of view, I find little need and prefer all my RAM to run important applications, plus I’m currently finding users complaining about the new start menu, and the fact they prefer to search for things with the older style cascading interface.

 

Perhaps over time as more users get Vista at home, they will have less trouble adapting to the new menu at work, and we will finally be able to put the Windows classic interface to rest.

Thanks, I have just ordered two of these to run Vista on in the office and shop, it will be one of my first attempts with vista in a work environment so should be interesting.
