Re: Why are you not able to use all of the space of a usb stick for ReadyBoost?

I'm sure at some stage I read somewhere that you have to leave the last 120MB of space free when using ReadyBoost but I'm unable to find the article now, I’ve also come across quite a few makes of USB 2.0 sticks that don’t work so here is some info you might like to know before you rush out and by some new devices.

Windows Vista supports the following form factors:-

    ·         USB 2.0 flash disk

    ·         Secure Digital (SD) cards

    ·         CompactFlash cards

When you first connect the device Vista performs a test to see if the memory meets the following standards:-

    ·         2.5MB / second throughout for 4KB random reads

    ·         1.75MB / second throughout for 512 KB random writes

In addition the device must have a minimum of 256MB available for ReadyBoost to work and currently Vista does not support multiple ReadyBoost Drives.

Microsoft recommend using a ReadyBoost cache equal to 150% of your installed system RAM for best performance.
