    ReadyBoost

Anyone else here using ReadyBoost?  I bought a 2GB stick of Crucial flash memory and running it in my desktop.  I'm too scared to unplug it to see if there is any difference. ;)

    Re: ReadyBoost

The information and data that is held on your readyboost device is encrypted and backed up to your main hard drive, so therefore it is safe to remove at any time. After stopping the device using the icon (safley remove hardware) located in the notification area of your taskbar.

I have found the best gains are to be had on machines that are only running 1GB of RAM.

For more info on readyboost see previous forum post's

    Re: ReadyBoost

    Hey Scott

Not scared of the encryption of my data, but not wanting to see any dropped performance.  It does seem to make a difference when playing games though from my completely nonsense evidence of the usb stick's light flashing more. ;)

    Re: ReadyBoost

I recently installed a 4GB USB flash memory stick and assigned the full capacity for use with ReadyBoost. I have 2GB of physical RAM and I cannot really see a difference or improvement in system performance. I'm wondering if there are any utilities to see how much ReadyBoost is helping the system, perhaps something in Performance Monitor?

    Re: ReadyBoost

Have a look at this little utility for monitoring your readyboost performance.

or if you are into sidebar gadgets like me try this one out.

    Re: ReadyBoost

Interesting titbit from James Senior's blog:

    Quote:

"PCs running Windows Vista that are equipped with 512 MB memory experience a performance boost of up to 40% with ReadyBoost technology"

    Re: ReadyBoost

As you say interesting gain may just have to put that to the test, would be interesting to know the size of the drive used for this test.

Might give it a go with 512mb ram and 2 gb USB stick.

Also the other facts re Vista are worthy of making note of, may help push Vista on the non-belivers.
